Following Junior Certificate students may opt to proceed to Transition Year, where additional subjects are available, Leaving Certificate Applied Programme or the Leaving Certificate Programme.
The Transition Year programme (optional) is designed to offer a creative pause between Junior and Senior cycle studies, while maintaining due academic momentum. A strong emphasis is placed on skills-based learning, team working and on guiding students towards taking responsibility for their own learning. The programme has been developed to ensure that key academic and other skills such as personal and social decision making skills, analytical research and independent learning are embedded in the curriculum and form an integral part of all subjects. Transition Year students participate in competitions which encourage team working. Cultural trips locally and abroad are an important feature of the TY programme.
Students currently study the following subjects in Transition Year: Religious Education, Maths, Irish, English and Media Studies, French, Spanish, Business and Enterprise, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Home Economics, Information Technology and ECDL, Art, Music/Drama, Careers and Work Experience and Physical Education.
There are many extra curricular activities and competitions that Transition Year students can get involved in throughout the year.
All subjects and elements of the Transition Year Programme depend on the resources available to the school in any given year and may change from year to year.
