Maths week

10-October-19
Maths week

Preparation are well underway for Maths week which will take place next week from Monday the 14th to Friday the 18th of October. Students will have many opportunities during the week to develop their numeracy skills and enjoyment of Maths. There are many events planned throughout the week, highlights include:

1st Year: All first year classes will get involved in decorating their classroom door during the week. The doors will be judged based on the "Best Decorated Maths Door". Transition year students are also organising a maths quiz and a maths Dance competition for first years.

2nd Year: All 2nd year students will attend a Maths Table Quiz in the hall on Monday afternoon, organised by TYs.

3rd year and 5th year: Maths classes will take part in either the PRISM problem solving competition or alternatively a Maths Table Quiz on Friday from 11:45 to 1:05.

Transition Year: TY students will be given a Transition year maths trail booklet to complete throughout the week. This will require the students to solve simultaneous equations and create coordinates which will lead them to a designated classroom door in the school. Over each door will be a coloured shape which the students will be required to write down. All the correct booklets will be put into a box and one student will be picked out and receive a prize.

In conjunction with all of these events there will be a number of school wide events:

Daily Puzzle: Each day there will be a daily puzzle placed on the TV and in each of the year group classrooms. The 1st year puzzle will be on Monday, 2nd year puzzle on Tuesday, 3rd and Transition year on Wednesday and 5th/6th on Friday. Students should place their answer with their name in the box at the office by the end of the day.

"Random Acts of Maths”: Ty students will stop students on the corridor, ask them a Maths question and if they get it right, they get a small prize.

Drop Everything and Sudoku: For the last 10 minutes of last class on Wednesday afternoon. A worksheet with a range of sudokus will be given to each student to complete.

We are very much looking forward to our week of fun filled Maths activities
