Sport

An extensive sports programme is carried on throughout the school year, co-ordinated by the experienced physical education teachers with the assistance of coaches. The school aims to encourage physical fitness in our students and help equip them with the knowledge and skills to lead a healthy lifestyle. Students experience a good variety of sporting modules throughout their formal physical education programme including: Athletics, Basketball, Badminton, Volleyball, Hockey, Soccer, Dance, Gaelic Football, Rounders, Gymnastics, Heath Related Activities/Fitness, Orienteering/Adventure, Cricket, Ultimate Frisbee, Tag Rugby and Olympic Handball.

The PE programme for each year group offers a balance between individual and team sports. While participating in individual sports students develop skills such as perseverance and goal setting, and grow in confidence and self esteem. Team sports help to foster decision-making and co-operative skills. St Vincent’s PE programme helps, therefore, with the holistic development of our students and these invaluable skills can be applied to all aspects of the student’s personal and academic life.

Class is held in an outstanding gymnasium with first class equipment. There is also a separate area within the gym with cardiovascular and aerobic equipment that includes treadmills, cross-trainers, rowing machines, boxing equipment and weights.

Extra-Curricular sport is offered to all students at lunchtime and after school. This year the programme includes: Athletics, Gaelic, Badminton, Basketball, Camogie, Rugby and Cricket.
